Why You Will (Eventually) Own A Smart Home

Smart homes are becoming the next big thing in technology. After getting home from a long day at work, you can now ask Alexa or Google Home to turn off the lights and play some relaxing music.

There are so many things you can do. Open your blinds. Drop on in other rooms in the house. Listen to music and the news hands free. Turn on that fan downstairs.

Integration In Today's World

Today, you can almost connect your entire house to the internet. The tv's, the lights, the speakers, and even non traditional devices like kitchen appliances and space heaters. That comes in very handy when you want to turn these on and off or dim the lights without having to get up (or if you've left the lights on before you left the house to go to work this morning and want to turn them off).

Phones also are starting to have these assistants that can control many things on your phone. (Siri, Google Assistant, Cortana, and now you can download Alexa).

People control their cars with these functions on their phones. Android and Siri both have their own apps that can disable your phone until they are not connected to the car to prevent distracted driving. Even some news companies use web-crawling bots to collect their research and even write their articles

Lots of things that we don't even think about are using these technologies that rely on Big Data (the name for all the data all these internet connected devices report back to their parent companies).

The Future Is Now

People in earlier generations only dreamed of having these sci-fi technologies. Popular media, such as Star Trek and Back To The Future even showcased how they thought we would live by now (and even though it isn't similar at all, it is still pretty cool what we can do with the internet today).

Today, you can control your lights, appliances, and even order food with these smart speakers or smart hubs.

I have connected an Amazon Echo Dot in my bedroom along with a smart plug to control the lights with. All I have to do is say "Alexa, lights on/off" and she turns the lights on or off (the hub is not necessary with smart plugs, as you have the option to control the lights with your phone if you would like to). I use it to help me remember things to do on my to do list and even to go on a routine with a programmed phrase. All this has helped me tremendously in my life.

Who is to say it won't help yours until you try it?
